Very close to Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi Gallery, the work let a modern American university campus agree with a historic Florentine Palace, XVI century Renaissance style, built above a medieval building. The elegant sobriety of the ancient core of the building, which rises around a large central courtyard, was highlighted in the Thirties with a wise restoration, but subsequently spoiled by additions and changes. Basically preserving the original layout of the building, the ground floor will include a reception area and coffee bar while the courtyard will house a library and study spaces, enclosed with a new old fashioned skylight. The second floor will feature classrooms and offices, and student apartments will arise at upper levels. The structural project deals with reinforcement of vaults, slabs and tie rods. Two new staircases are also planned in the place of old ones, demolished as not suitable to the current set of rules.
