Former Fish Market, Naples

Redevelopment of the 1929 industrial building designed by Luigi Cosenza

The Fish Market was the result of an initiative by the then 24-year-old Luigi Cosenza, a recent engineering graduate from the Polytechnic of Naples, who voluntarily submitted a design for a new fish trade center. His proposal aimed to replace the project already prepared by the municipality following the closure in 1926 of the existing facilities, which were inadequate and in unsanitary conditions.

The foundation of the executive project lies in an in-depth understanding of the building:
– the historical and structural knowledge of the building, developed through historical documents and enriched by records of recent restoration and renovation works held at the current archive of the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Metropolitan City of Naples;
– a detailed analysis of the PFTE (Technical and Economic Feasibility Project) and the surveys carried out;
– the initiation of a first phase of work involving interior demolitions and waste removal, which provided further insights into the structure;
– laser scanner surveying and the development of a constantly updated BIM model in coordination with the construction site.

A continuous and constructive dialogue with an enlightened Contracting Authority has been key to delivering an executive project of high quality and in harmony with its surrounding context.
